A bail hearing for suspended police deputy commissioner Shadrack Sibiya resumed with a transcript of a witness known as Mr M speaking to an unidentified man. The excerpt referred to money and an effort to “close their case.”

The bail application of Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya continued on Wednesday at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. The court heard a transcript of a conversation between a witness identified only as “Mr M” and an unknown man.

Investigating officer Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu read an excerpt that referred to money connected with the Sibiya matter. According to the transcript, the unidentified speaker said people wanted to talk to Mr M so they could “close their case.” The published passage does not establish who said each line.

Sibiya, who is suspended from his post as deputy national commissioner for crime detection, faces charges including the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl, rape, human trafficking and a firearms-law violation. He was arrested last month at a club in Sandton, north of Johannesburg. The allegations have not been proven in court.
