Children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova said on October 8 that Sofia, whom Russian forces reportedly rescued in Kostiantynivka, would be placed under the guardianship of her aunt and uncle.
Sofia and her relatives will come to Moscow at the end of October, where her aunt and uncle will take her into their home, Lvova-Belova said. The commissioner added that she hoped to meet them in person and invite them to visit.
In July, Lvova-Belova said she would oversee assistance for the girl. According to the commissioner, Sofia’s mother had died, the child did not remember her father, and her grandparents had died of injuries after a Ukrainian drone struck their home. Lvova-Belova said the lack of documents had complicated establishing the child’s identity and required court proceedings.
