St Petersburg says five hospitalised mpox patients are improving

All five patients hospitalised with confirmed mpox in St Petersburg are recovering, the city’s health committee told RIA Novosti.

A committee representative said some patients had initially been moderately ill. Most now have mild disease.

Botkin Infectious Diseases Hospital had previously confirmed the diagnoses in the five patients. Russia’s public health watchdog reported their hospitalisation with suspected infection on October 16.

Public health measures have been organised in St Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region. Specialists are identifying people who had contact with those infected.
