Tejano and Tex-Mex musician Bobby Pulido is seeking the U.S. House seat for Texas’s 15th District. His campaign combines support for border security with proposals on small business, jobs and immigration policy.

Democrat Bobby Pulido and Republican Monica De La Cruz are competing for Texas’s 15th District seat in the U.S. House in the Nov. 3 congressional election. Pulido is best known as a performer of Tejano and Tex-Mex music. He was born in Edinburg, Texas, into a musical family: his father, Roberto Pulido, known as “El Primo,” is regarded as a Tejano music pioneer. Bobby graduated from Edinburg High School and studied political science before committing himself fully to music.

Pulido began recording in the mid-1990s. His debut album, Desvelado, came out in 1995, and its title track became a prominent Tejano song. He later released Enséñame, Llegaste a mi vida and El Cazador. In 2022, he won a Latin Grammy for Para que baile mi pueblo. In 2024, he announced that he was leaving the stage to focus on politics. He announced his candidacy for the 15th District on Sept. 17, 2025.

Pulido describes himself as a conservative Democrat and supports border security. His campaign website also says he would reduce bureaucratic barriers for small businesses, promote better-paying jobs and workforce training. On immigration, he supports deporting people in the United States unlawfully who have been convicted of violent crimes, establishing processing centers in Central America, and creating a path to legal status or citizenship for working taxpayers whose labor is needed by the economy.

A House Majority PAC poll conducted Sept. 24–28 among 400 likely voters found Pulido at 54% and De La Cruz at 41%. The poll was commissioned by a political committee aligned with Democrats and is not an election forecast. The source article cuts off as it begins to discuss additional data on voters’ views of the candidates, so those figures are not included here.
