TheWrap reported that Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s film starring Tom Cruise earned about $21 million worldwide in its opening weekend. The Associated Press cited $8 million in domestic receipts and about $12 million in international markets. Sport-Express reported worldwide receipts of $23 million.

Sources told TheWrap that production cost $163 million to $173 million, with about $100 million spent on marketing. Warner Bros. financed the project in full. TheWrap’s loss projection of up to $250 million includes post-theatrical revenue. Another source estimated losses at $200 million to $215 million, depending on premium video-on-demand sales.
