Three kilometers of Sakhalin coastline cleared of washed-up oil products
A three-kilometer stretch of coastline near Penzenskoye in Sakhalin’s Tomarinsky district has been cleared of petroleum products, the district administration told RIA Novosti.
The pollution washed ashore on Monday, when cleanup work began. The municipality said two more stretches remained to be cleared, with their lengths not yet established.
The administration reported no threat to nearby residents and said no oil slicks had been found in the waters of the Tatar Strait.
Russia’s environmental regulator, Rosprirodnadzor, is investigating the source of the pollution.
