WSJ reports Anthropic posted $80.7 billion loss ahead of IPO

Anthropic recorded an $80.7 billion net loss in the first half of 2026, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a draft prospectus ahead of the company’s planned stock-market listing.

Accounting charges accounted for $72 billion of the total. Reuters, citing the Journal, said these reflected changes in the value of convertible notes and other instruments used to raise funding.

According to RBC’s account, the Claude developer generated $16.3 billion in half-year revenue, up from $1.1 billion a year earlier. Spending on computing capacity and infrastructure approached $9 billion, exceeding the previous full-year figure of $7.3 billion.

The report put cloud-related commitments over the next seven to ten years at about $450 billion. Listed contracts included $111 billion with Google Cloud, $110 billion with Amazon Web Services and $31 billion with Microsoft. Up to $86 billion was allocated to renting Nvidia chips through Nscale and Lambda.

The draft also describes risks of harm from AI models. RBC reported that the company warned a catastrophic incident could cause damage too extensive to insure.
