The foreign ministers of South Korea and Canada agreed to deepen practical cooperation in defense industries, energy, critical minerals and artificial intelligence.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand discussed expanding practical cooperation in defense and the arms industry, energy, artificial intelligence and other fields, Yonhap reported, citing Seoul’s foreign ministry.
The ministers also agreed to discuss advanced-technology cooperation, including AI, at a joint science and technology committee meeting scheduled for Seoul next month. They pledged to work to ensure stable energy supplies and continue talks on critical-mineral supply chains.
South Korea’s imports of Canadian crude oil and liquefied natural gas have recently increased, according to the report. Cho asked Ottawa to continue supporting South Korean companies investing in Canada’s strategic industries, including batteries and advanced materials.
The discussions build on the Security and Defense Cooperation Partnership established in October 2025. South Korea’s foreign ministry released a same-day account confirming the main points of the call.
