Trump announces $70–80 billion Taiwan commitment for Alaska LNG

Donald Trump said on October 14 that Taiwan had agreed to buy $70–80 billion of Alaska LNG over 20 years. Taiwan's economy ministry confirmed procurement and potential investment plans while saying commercial terms still required agreement.

The US president said the commitment covered 30% of the project's future deliveries. He credited Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and said the project was ready for work to begin.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs outlined plans to buy six million tonnes annually and invest up to $4.4 billion in development. It recalled that state-owned CPC Corporation signed a letter of intent in March 2025.

The ministry identified 2032 as the earliest possible supply date if the project proceeds on schedule. Investment arrangements, ownership share and other commercial terms remain subject to further negotiations.

Alaska LNG envisages gas treatment in northern Alaska, a pipeline across the state and an export terminal on the Kenai Peninsula. Trump previously announced South Korean investment, but South Korean Industry and Trade Minister Kim Jung-kwan said specific amounts and implementation details had not been agreed at that time.
