Trump backs Netanyahu ahead of Israel's parliamentary election

US President Donald Trump endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of the country's election in a statement posted on Truth Social.

Trump linked his support to cooperation with Netanyahu in the war against Iran. He said a different Israeli leader could leave the United States carrying out that work alone, something he did not want.

The US president offered Netanyahu his full endorsement. Israel's parliamentary election is scheduled for October 27.

Netanyahu has headed the government since December 2022. His earlier terms as prime minister ran from 1996 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2021.
