Two girls rescued from deadly Komsomolsk-on-Amur fire remain in hospital

Khabarovsk Krai Governor Dmitry Demeshin said one girl was in moderate condition and the other was out of danger.

Doctors are treating both girls. Demeshin said he had instructed the regional Health Ministry to provide them with the medical care and support they need.

The fire broke out early on October 8 in an apartment on the fourth floor of a building on Gamarnika Street. The regional emergency service said the fire covered 10 square meters and was extinguished in 43 minutes. The apartment had no standalone smoke detector.

Emergency officials said six children and their mother had been in the apartment. The woman and four children died. A neighbor on the same floor helped rescue two girls. Emergency and investigative services are at the scene and are working to establish the cause.
