U.S. confirms Kristina Kedysheva's deportation after flight incident
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security told RIA Novosti that Russian citizen Kristina Kedysheva was deported on September 29. Criminal charges against her were later dropped at prosecutors' request.
The department said the removal decision was made on September 27. Its newly reported account clarifies the timeline: deportation preceded an October 1 court decision to transfer Kedysheva to home detention.
The incident occurred on September 8 aboard a flight from Milan to New Jersey. The aircraft diverted to Bangor, Maine, where border officers and police removed her from the plane.
The department alleges that Kedysheva assaulted two people, including a flight attendant. A federal district court in Maine kept her in custody in September and found grounds for the criminal prosecution to proceed.
Her lawyer, Eric Crocker, told RIA Novosti last week that all charges had been dismissed. According to the timeline supplied by the department, the criminal case was also terminated after her deportation.
