University of Santiago de Chile seeks closer ties with Russian universities

The University of Santiago de Chile wants to expand cooperation with Russian universities in space technology and geospatial data processing, rector Pedro Palominos told RIA Novosti on October 14 at a forum in Santiago.

Palominos cited Russian universities' expertise in space technology and large-scale data processing. He said those capabilities could support the sustainable development of territories.

The university had previously focused mainly on academic links with Latin America, Europe and the United States, the rector said. It now hopes to broaden its Russian partnerships through joint research and exchanges of expertise.

The forum opened on October 13 and is organised jointly with the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. Its programme covers satellite monitoring of emergencies, Antarctic research, agriculture and cybersecurity.
