Saxony-Anhalt parliament calls for end to military aid to Ukraine

The parliament of Germany's Saxony-Anhalt state adopted an AfD and Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance resolution on October 14 calling for an end to military aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, ZDF reported.
The motion passed at an extraordinary session in Magdeburg with support from the two factions, which together hold 44 of the legislature's 83 seats.
Its authors urged the state government to use its available instruments, including an initiative in the Bundesrat, to pursue a diplomatic settlement. They also demanded an end to financial support for Ukraine beyond humanitarian assistance.
Acting state premier Sven Schulze of the Christian Democratic Union opposed the resolution. ZDF reported that Social Democratic, Green and Left Party representatives also criticised it.
The Bundesrat, where the authors proposed an initiative, represents Germany's state governments at the federal level.
