Uralvagonzavod chief says Armata is being refined during phased troop operation
Russia's Armata tank is being modified using experience from the war in Ukraine and is undergoing phased operation by troops, Uralvagonzavod chief executive Alexander Potapov said.
Potapov told RIA Novosti that ammunition with several types of higher-performance rounds was already available for the tank. The manufacturer was also conducting further work on ammunition performance and the composition of the ammunition load.
He described Armata as a foundation for future development, citing its unmanned fighting compartment and protected crew capsule. However, he said the main work during the conflict had focused on the T-72, T-80, T-90 and T-62.
Introducing a new platform requires simulators, training and preparation for operation as well as the vehicles themselves, Potapov said. He added that combat had accelerated feedback between troops and developers.
The comments accompanied Uralvagonzavod's 90th anniversary on October 11. Potapov did not specify a completion date for the Armata modifications or delivery volumes.
