Spain beat US women 2-0 after two early goals in Washington

Spain defeated the United States 2-0 in a women's friendly in Washington on October 10, with Patricia Guijarro and Eva Navarro scoring inside the opening 14 minutes.

Guijarro struck from distance in the third minute. Navarro doubled the lead from Salma Paralluelo's cross as the reigning world champions faced the Paris Olympic champions at Audi Field.

The Americans created chances after halftime but could not reduce the deficit. Sophia Wilson's goal was disallowed for offside, and Adriana Nanclares saved Lily Yohannes's penalty. Spain had no shots on target in the second half.

Spain finished with 10 players after Athenea del Castillo was sent off in stoppage time for pulling Michelle Cooper's hair. The score remained unchanged.

Mallory Swanson returned to the US team after 710 days away, appearing as a substitute following the birth of her daughter. The teams meet again on October 13 in Chester, Pennsylvania. Spain's victory was its second against the United States.
