Vance blames immigration policy for violence during French protests

US Vice President JD Vance blamed Western liberals’ immigration policies for violence during protests in France.
Writing on X, he accused governments of ignoring questions of assimilation and compatibility when admitting migrants. Vance said he hoped France would halt the violence before more landmarks burned.
His remarks followed mass demonstrations against the rising cost of living on October 17. The protests were accompanied by clashes with police, looting and arson.
French authorities put nationwide participation at 550,000, including 110,000 in Paris. Police used tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons.
