Wainwright base fire sends 39 people to hospital in Alberta

39 people were hospitalized after the fire at Canada's Wainwright military base. At least 19 are in critical condition, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said, according to CTV News.

The fire started in the base's training area on Saturday and spread rapidly beyond its boundaries, the Canadian Armed Forces said. Patients were transferred to hospitals in Alberta.

Smith said all hospitalized patients were accounted for. Hospitals receiving casualties have lifted their Code Orange mass casualty protocols.

Canada's Department of National Defence said the fire and explosion remain under investigation.
