A 36-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl died after their vehicle went into a dam in Maryborough, police in Queensland said.
Emergency services were called to Springvale Road in Tinana South just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Police said the Subaru Tribeca went through a fence before entering the water. The two occupants were found dead inside.
Police said the pair were not mother and daughter, but their relationship had not been established by Friday morning. Investigators were examining the circumstances of the crash and asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact police.
Maryborough is on the Fraser Coast, about 250 kilometres north of Brisbane. ABC News independently reported the location, the victims’ ages and the police appeal.
