Yamal plans to add triathlon to Northern Character games in 2027

Yamal plans to add a triathlon stage to its Northern Character extreme games. Governor Dmitry Artyukhov backed the athletes’ proposal and ordered work on the new format, the regional government said.

Six stages in six municipalities are planned between April and September 2027. Triathlon would join the winter, summer and autumn stages, Velodrive and trail running. Athletes from Tarko-Sale proposed the addition during a meeting on the Honest Route tour.

The 2026 season included events in Gubkinsky, Novy Urengoy, Tarko-Sale, Kharp and Salekhard. The five stages drew 5719 participants, a record for the project, according to regional authorities.

This year, organisers introduced a Recruits category for ages 16–17 and a reduced-intensity Basic Level category for adults aged 18 and older. The future triathlon’s format remains to be developed. The announcement does not provide approved distances or a registration date.
