Russia's new electric vehicle and hybrid sales rise 94.6%

Russia sold 99,749 new electric vehicles and hybrids in January–September 2026. Figures from the industry ministry and analytics company PPK show the combined segment nearly doubling from the same period a year earlier.
The industry ministry reported a 94.6% increase in new electric vehicle and hybrid sales over the first nine months of 2026. The comparable period in 2025 recorded 51,253 vehicles. The calculations use data from the electronic vehicle passport system.
Electric vehicles and hybrids accounted for 9.3% of Russia's overall new vehicle market in January–September. This is a combined figure for both categories and does not establish a separate sales trend for vehicles powered exclusively by electricity.
Within the combined segment, the share manufactured in Russia increased from 12.5% to 28.4%. Interfax's report on the ministry's That proportion describes local manufacturing within the electric and hybrid segment, rather than across all new vehicles.
Earlier, Avtostat head Sergei Tselikov forecast that electric car and plug-in hybrid sales would exceed 100,000 units in 2026, roughly double the 2025 level. That is a full-year forecast and should be distinguished from the nine-month sales figures already reported.
