Yemeni army says 1,860 Houthis were ‘neutralised’

Yemeni government forces said they had carried out 2,103 operations against Houthi positions as part of the Dawn of Yemen offensive. The army said 1,860 fighters had been “neutralised” but did not specify how many were killed or wounded.

An army spokesman said the operations targeted Houthi military positions on several fronts and destroyed hundreds of pieces of equipment and sites. The figures were not independently verified in the report.

Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced the operation on Sunday. The government said it aims to retake Houthi-held territory, including the capital Sanaa, which the group has controlled since 2014.

Fighting has intensified around the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the city of Mocha. Government-aligned forces began an operation on Tuesday to seize strategic positions near the strait. The Houthis captured Mocha in September.

The Saudi-led coalition said it destroyed 82 Houthi military targets on Wednesday in Saada, Hodeidah, al-Jawf and Marib governorates. It said the targets included missile sites, command centres, communications systems and weapons storage facilities.

A coalition spokesman linked the operation to Houthi attacks on airports in Riyadh and Abha on Tuesday and Wednesday. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority reported three people killed and 36 injured in the attacks. Those figures also came from official sources.
