Zeynep Sonmez beats Anastasia Zakharova in Wuhan qualifying

Anastasia Zakharova’s Wuhan WTA 1000 qualifying campaign ended on October 10 with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat by Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez.
Zakharova entered the match ranked 110th, while Sonmez was world No. 58. The Turkish player won both sets to remain in contention for a place in the main draw.
Across one hour and 10 minutes, Zakharova hit six aces, committed five double faults and converted two of five break points. Sonmez recorded one ace and three double faults, converting five of her six break-point opportunities.
Sonmez’s next qualifying opponent was to be the winner of the match between Poland’s Magda Linette and Austria’s Sinja Kraus. Victory in that final qualifying round would secure entry into the main draw.
