Abbas sets joint Palestinian elections for September 11, 2027

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has postponed legislative elections and set a joint presidential and parliamentary vote for September 11, 2027, state news agency WAFA reported on October 10.
The new decree replaces the previously scheduled legislative council poll. Parliamentary voting had been planned for November 28, 2026, and both contests are now to take place on the same day.
The Palestine Liberation Organization's executive committee approved the postponement on Saturday. Palestinian authorities cited security, logistical and practical obstacles to holding the vote and blamed Israel for creating them.
The announcement changes the electoral timetable. It does not mean voting has already taken place or that organisational obstacles have been resolved.
WAFA gives a specific day for the simultaneous elections, while the explanation for the delay reflects the Palestinian authorities' position. The decision moves the legislative contest from November this year to September next year.
