ABC: US and Russia near deal to release jailed Americans

The United States and Russia are in the final stages of talks on releasing several Americans from Russian detention, ABC News reported, citing sources. Final terms have not been agreed.

The network said US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were leading the negotiations. Two American officials and another person familiar with the discussions spoke to ABC.

The sources cautioned that an agreement might not materialise or that its scope could change. ABC said at least eight US citizens were being held in Russia.
