About 50 taken to police headquarters after Milan protest clashes

About 50 demonstrators were taken to police headquarters after clashes in Milan on October 17, Corriere della Sera reported. ANSA confirmed dozens had been detained and said the figures were provisional.
Italia in Piazza organised the cost-of-living protest, which Corriere della Sera said drew about 5,000 people. Stones, bottles and firecrackers were thrown at police in the city centre, where officers used tear gas and a water cannon.
Clashes continued near Piazza Duomo and Piazza Mercanti. Bus shelters and windows were damaged, and access to the central entrances of Duomo metro station was restricted.
