Andreeva rises to career-high No. 3 in WTA rankings

Mirra Andreeva climbed two places to a career-high No. 3 in the WTA rankings published on October 12, following her run to the Beijing final.

The 19-year-old Russian has 6,371 points in the updated list. Jessica Pegula, whom she displaced from third place, is fourth with 6,225 points.

Andreeva reached the final of the WTA 1000 China Open before losing to China’s Zheng Qinwen. The result helped her move up from fifth in the world.

RBC reported that she became the first Russian woman in the top three since Maria Sharapova, who last occupied a top-three position in October 2015.

Elena Rybakina remains No. 1 with 9,696 points, followed by Aryna Sabalenka on 7,550, according to the official WTA list. Andreeva’s new ranking is confirmed in that list, rather than being a projection during the tournament.
