Angelina Melnikova and Viktoria Listunova named in world gymnastics squad

The Olympic champions were included in the Russian gymnastics federation’s squad for the Rotterdam worlds on Oct. 17–25. The announcement named 12 gymnasts, including reserves.
Anna Kalmykova, Lyudmila Roshchina and Alena Glotova were also named to the women’s team, with Milana Kayumova as reserve. RBC and Championat reported the federation’s announcement Oct. 9.
The men’s main squad includes Arseniy Dukhno, Daniel Marinov, Ilya Zaika, Saveliy Syedin and Sergey Naidin. Mukhammadzhon Yakubov was named as reserve. Each team therefore has five main competitors and one reserve.
The world championships in the Netherlands will serve as a qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Fontanka reported that the three leading teams in each of the men’s and women’s competitions will secure Olympic places.
Angelina Melnikova and Viktoria Listunova won team gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Inclusion on the entry list does not by itself establish that the gymnasts have arrived for the competition.
