Sergey Nekrasov links sporting director accountability to coach results

Spartak chief executive Sergey Nekrasov says a sporting director should answer for the results of a coach he recommends. He explained his position in a Sport-Express interview published on October 9.
Asked whether the director and coach should leave together after a failure, Nekrasov first questioned how failure should be defined. He cited Spartak's penalty-shootout defeat in the Super Cup. The interviewer clarified that the question concerned sustained failure in performances and results.
In that situation, Nekrasov said the answer was yes. He described the sporting director as one of the club's three most important figures and stressed accountability for appointing a coach.
Discussing Franck Cagigao and Juan Carlos Carcedo, he noted the coach's standing in European football and previous experience at Spartak. Nekrasov described Carcedo as independent, with firm views on preparation, match management and dealings with the media.
Cagigao has been Spartak's sporting director since January 2025. Carcedo took charge on January 5, 2026, and won the Russian Cup in May. Both previously worked at Arsenal, where Carcedo was part of Unai Emery's coaching staff.
