Animal behaviour specialist suggests ways to keep cats occupied

Calming music may help a cat feel less anxious while its owners are away, animal behaviour specialist Svetlana Kapustina says. In comments published by NEWS.ru on October 9, she also suggested rotating toys and providing a view outside.
The specialist recommends keeping several toys for independent play and food puzzles. When leaving home, she advises giving the pet one or two and putting the others away. She says this rotation can help maintain a cat's interest in toys that might otherwise become boring.
Kapustina compared a window to television for a cat, offering something new to watch outside. She described music primarily as a way to reduce anxiety rather than as substantial entertainment. Her recommendations combine a calm sound environment, independent play and opportunities to observe the surroundings.
