Adamian finishes fifth at World Judo Championships in Baku

Arman Adamian finished fifth in the men's under-100kg category at the World Judo Championships in Baku after losing to Niiaz Bilalov in the bronze-medal contest on October 9.

Adamian reached the final block by beating Uzbekistan's Tulkinbek Turdiev in the quarter-final. He then lost to Japan's Dota Arai in the semi-final, retaining an opportunity to compete for third place.

Following the repechage contests, Adamian faced fellow Russian Bilalov for bronze. The International Judo Federation reported that Bilalov countered an attack for a yuko and won the medal.

Georgia's Ilia Sulamanidze won the title by defeating Arai in the final. Italy's Gennaro Pirelli took the other bronze medal. Individual competition in Baku runs from October 4 to 10, with the mixed-team event scheduled for October 11.
