Kumkum Mohod sets sights on Olympic gold after Asian Games success

Seventeen-year-old Indian archer Kumkum Mohod says Olympic gold in Los Angeles is her next goal. She discussed her preparations and support network at a Sports Authority of India interaction on October 9.
The 17-year-old Mohod received a celebratory welcome in her home town of Amravati, but her personal coach Praful Dange urged her to concentrate on the next challenge. She said he reminded her that the team’s main ambition was an Olympic victory and encouraged her to keep working rather than dwell on her recent success.
At the Asian Games in Japan, Mohod won individual and women’s team gold, as well as mixed team silver. World Archery confirms those results and the Olympic quota secured for India through her individual victory. That quota belongs to the country and does not by itself establish her final selection for the Games.
Mohod highlighted the support of mixed team partner B. Dhiraj. They previously won a World Cup stage title in Antalya. She said he helped ease the pressure and encouraged her to enjoy the process regardless of the result. When he could not be present, he also supported her through messages.
She stayed calm during a tense shoot-off in the individual final. Her next priorities include building strength and refining her technique. Mohod also acknowledged the sacrifices her parents made to support her sporting ambitions.
She described Virat Kohli as an example of discipline and hard work and said she would like to meet him. Deepika Kumari’s dedication also inspires her. Mohod expressed admiration for para archers Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag, praising their courage and mental resilience ahead of the Para Asian Games.
