Under Argentina’s current electoral law, the first round of the 2027 presidential election is due on October 24. PASO primaries, if they are not abolished, are scheduled for August 8.
The October 24 date follows the rule that general elections take place on the fourth Sunday of October before the end of the president’s term. The formal election call must be issued at least 90 days in advance, so the date set by law is not yet an official election decree.
Under current law, PASO primaries fall on the second Sunday in August, which in 2027 is August 8. The governing coalition is seeking to abolish the mandatory primaries but, at the time of La Nación’s report, did not have the necessary support in the Senate. If the law changes, the August vote may not take place.
A runoff is required if no candidate wins 45% of the vote, or at least 40% while leading the nearest rival by more than 10 percentage points. The second round must be held within 30 days of the first.
Voters are due to choose a president, vice president, 130 members of the Chamber of Deputies and 24 senators. Buenos Aires City will also elect its head of government, while several provinces and local jurisdictions are due to choose their own officials. La Nación presents these dates as a guide based on current law, not as a final calendar for every level of government.
