Police deploy forensic teams and drones in probe into Himsri Boro's death

Andhra Pradesh Police are using a Special Investigation Team, forensic specialists, dog squads and drones to investigate the death of Assam student Himsri Boro. Her body was found beside railway tracks in Srikakulam district on October 7, according to a police account released late on October 9.

Boro's body was discovered near Penubarthi village, beside the line between Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Road. The district Superintendent of Police and the investigation team visited the scene, while specialist units inspected the surrounding railway corridor for evidence.

According to the police release, Boro was studying for a BBA in Guwahati and arrived in Visakhapatnam on August 16 with a dance group of two men and eight women. The group stayed in Pendurthi and earned about 2,000 rupees per person a day. Five members later returned to Assam and five remained.

Boro tried to travel back to Assam on October 6 but missed the Silchar Express. She stayed at the railway station and sought help buying a ticket for the delayed Vivek Express, which had been scheduled for 11:50 p.m.

Her college friend Jyothi Chowdari contacted Eswar, a schoolmate studying at Raghu Engineering College. He asked his friend Abhinash to help because he was too far away. Abhinash went to Visakhapatnam Railway Station and obtained a general ticket for Boro, police said.

The release said the Vivek Express arrived at 1:30 a.m. A ticket collector declined Boro's request for a third AC sleeper berth, while two AC coach attendants asked for 4,000 rupees without guaranteeing a place. Police said she boarded an overcrowded moving coach alone at 2:39 a.m. on October 7.

Boro later called Chowdari and complained of misbehaviour by some boys before the call disconnected, according to police. Chowdari informed classmate Anoop Tiwari, who reported the matter through Railway Helpline 139.

When the train reached Srikakulam Road Station at 3:56 a.m., railway assistant sub-inspector V. Aruna and other staff searched the front and rear parts of the coach without finding Boro. An alert was also sent to Palasa Railway Station.

Police subsequently recovered her luggage from the S2 coach. A co-passenger said she had fallen from the moving train, the release stated. That account remains part of the ongoing investigation rather than an announced finding on how she died.

Doctors conducted a postmortem examination. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence about the circumstances leading to her death.
