Auckland couple plan to help children after NZ$15.3 million win

An Auckland couple who won NZ$15.3 million plan to help their children and eventually live by the sea. Lotto New Zealand described their plans on October 9.
The couple play regularly. The man discovered the win while checking his ticket on MyLotto on a Sunday and woke his wife. She said he looked so pale that she initially feared bad news. Rather than explain, he showed her the ticket with the matching Powerball numbers.
The winners had not yet told their children and wanted time to take in what had happened. The prize is worth about US$8.6 million. Alongside supporting their family, they hope to retire and settle somewhere near the sea.
Their immediate spending plans were more modest. The woman said she could now consider fillet steak instead of a cheaper cut. Her husband plans to buy a phone and joked about a gold-plated toothbrush and a gold Rolex. His wife noted that he does not wear a watch.
