Bali urges use of public transport amid fuel shortages

On Oct. 13, Bali’s transport department urged residents to use buses and electric transport amid fuel shortages and queues at filling stations, department head I Kadek Mudarta said.
Mudarta said bus services were prepared for a possible increase in passenger numbers. The department hopes greater use of public transport will ease pressure on roads. RIA Novosti and Indonesia’s ANTARA news agency reported his remarks.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster had earlier said fuel stocks were available at depots but traffic congestion was hampering deliveries to filling stations. He expected supplies to normalise within one or two days. That was a forecast, rather than confirmation that deliveries had already recovered.
The disruption has affected areas including Ubud and Uluwatu, both popular with visitors to the island.
Russia’s consulate general in Bali advised Russian citizens to plan routes ahead and allow extra travel time. It also recommended avoiding nonessential journeys where possible.
