Bears wreck Sayan hunting hut as another kills a lynx

Bears wrecked a hunting hut in the Sayan mountains in the southern Krasnoyarsk region. Nikolay Maltsev, head of the regional game supervision department, on October 19 described the damage and a separate incident in which a bear killed a lynx.

Maltsev said two bears had damaged the hut. A different bear caught and ate a lynx in the forest.

He linked the behaviour to food shortages following a poor crop of plant foods. In his assessment, hunger is driving the animals to travel long distances.

Published photographs show overturned bunks and scattered belongings inside the hut. The stove remained intact.
