Students disrupt Louvre's morning opening in support of school protests
Students blocked access to the Louvre in Paris on Monday morning, preventing the museum from opening at its usual 9:00 time, its management and unions told AFP.
The protesters expressed support for the high school student movement and opposed what they described as police repression. A leaflet announcing the blockade was posted near the museum.
Louvre management said the action was not directly related to museum operations. Students were using the site to draw attention to their demands.
The school protests began with demands for more teachers, social workers and psychologists. University students, teachers and trade unions later joined the movement.
Nationwide demonstrations took place in France on October 17, with participants also demanding action over rising living costs and changes to social policy.
