Bordeaux introduces overnight curfew for unaccompanied minors in affected central areas
A curfew for minors unaccompanied by a legal guardian takes effect in designated parts of Bordeaux on October 20. The restriction runs from 22:00 to 07:00 local time until the morning of October 26, the Gironde prefecture said.
The decision was taken on the evening of October 19 after violence and looting during the October 17 demonstration. It applies to the areas most affected, rather than the whole city.
The designated locations include Rue Sainte-Catherine, Rue de la Porte-Dijeaux, Cours de l’Intendance, Promenade Sainte-Catherine, Place Saint-Projet and Place du Général Sarrail. Minors may be there during curfew hours only with an adult legal guardian.
The measure follows protests that began in September with school students demanding improvements to educational facilities. People unhappy about rising prices later joined the demonstrations. About 550 thousand people participated nationwide on October 17, according to France’s interior ministry.
