Bank of Russia explains when cashback is retained with universal QR payments

Cashback remains available through a universal QR code if the selected payment method offers it, the Bank of Russia said in a clarification on its Telegram channel.

The regulator said that, since September 1, a universal checkout code has brought together payment options previously accessed through separate QR codes. Customers can select the Faster Payments System, a bank’s payment service, digital roubles or an available instalment option.

The QR code provides a common entry point, while benefits depend on the payment method chosen. Customers scan the code with a smartphone camera, select an option and confirm the payment.
