Bosphorus shipping resumes after IVYAN tanker breakdown
Shipping through the Bosphorus resumed after a temporary halt in both directions caused by a breakdown on the tanker IVYAN. DHA and TRT updated their reports to say the vessel had been towed to the Kucukcekmece anchorage.
The Malta-flagged tanker was sailing from Bulgaria to Italy. Its engine failed off Kanlica at around 7:10pm local time on October 11. It drifted before stopping close to the shore.
KURTARMA-7 and KURTARMA-11 tugboats and rescue boats were dispatched. Anadolu, citing Turkey's General Directorate of Coastal Safety, said the tanker carried 6,000 tonnes of vegetable oil.
Passage through the strait remained suspended while teams secured the disabled vessel. The restrictions were lifted after it was safely anchored. DHA updated its report with the reopening late on October 11.
