Tiririca, a comedian who has served four terms in Brazil’s lower house, received 5,536 votes in Ceará and will remain an alternate on his party’s list rather than return to Congress.
In a social-media post on Thursday, he said he had treated politics in Ceará too lightly. His party, the Social Democratic Party (PSD), won three seats, but his vote total was not enough for a mandate. He will leave the Chamber of Deputies after four consecutive terms.
Tiririca was elected four times from São Paulo. In 2010 he won 1.34 million votes, the highest total for a congressional candidate nationwide. As a political newcomer, he campaigned with a joke: he said he did not know what a federal deputy did, but voters should elect him and he would explain.
He was re-elected with more than a million votes in 2014, then won 453,000 in 2018 and 71,000 in 2022. He moved his electoral registration from São Paulo to his home state of Ceará in November 2025. Final results published by Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court show he received 5,536 votes this time.
