Brazilian industrial output falls in 10 of 15 areas in August

Industrial production fell in 10 of Brazil’s 15 surveyed areas in August from July. Output nationwide declined 0.6%, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The sharpest monthly drop was in Pará state, where output fell 7.3%. Production declined 5.7% in Amazonas and 4.5% in Rio Grande do Sul. In São Paulo, the country’s largest industrial center, it was down 0.2%.

Output also contracted in Ceará, by 3.6%, Pernambuco and Espírito Santo, by 2.5% each, Santa Catarina, by 1.5%, and Goiás, by 1.1%. The Northeast region recorded a 0.5% decline.

Compared with August 2025, industrial production fell in 12 of the 18 areas surveyed. The national decrease was 1.2%, while São Paulo’s output declined 2.5%, IBGE data showed.
