Camera near damaged Leipzig/Halle Airport fence did not record incident
Police have no recording of the damage to Leipzig/Halle Airport’s perimeter fence from a nearby camera, police spokesperson Dirk Eidam told Bild.
In its report published on October 18, Bild cited airport operator Mitteldeutsche Flughafen spokesperson Uwe Schuhart as saying the device was intended for operational monitoring of airfield traffic rather than continuous security surveillance.
Bild initially reported that this type of camera is switched on manually as needed. RIA Novosti subsequently reported Schuhart’s clarification that the device had been operating but did not cover the damaged section of fence.
Leipzig police had earlier reported that a runway was closed after damage to the perimeter fence was discovered. DPA reported that a vehicle may have driven through it.
The damaged section is near a parking area for Antonov cargo aircraft, according to DPA.
