Car burned during protest outside South Africa's Constitutional Court

A vehicle was set alight outside South Africa's Constitutional Court in Johannesburg on October 9, and police fired rubber bullets during a protest over an asylum ruling, SABC reported.
Marchers led by media personality Ngizwe Mchunu travelled from Kwa Mai Mai in the city centre to the court in Braamfontein. SABC said no injuries or arrests had been reported when its account was published.
The protesters welcomed the Home Affairs Department's withdrawal of a directive concerning asylum applications. However, they argued that withdrawing the document did not overturn the Constitutional Court's judgment, which remained the target of their demands.
Mchunu warned of further action and announced plans for a Johannesburg shutdown on Tuesday, October 13. This was a statement by a protest organiser, rather than an announcement of restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Briefly reported that firefighters arrived to extinguish the burning vehicle. The outlet said it remained unclear who had set it alight.
