Francisco Cerúndolo beats Roman Safiullin in Shanghai second round

Roman Safiullin exited the Shanghai Masters singles draw after a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 second-round defeat to Francisco Cerúndolo.
The October 9 match lasted one hour and 38 minutes. The opening set went to a tie-break, which the Argentine won by seven points to five. Cerúndolo then took the second set 6-3 to reach the third round of the ATP 1000 tournament.
Safiullin hit nine aces and committed two double faults. He converted one of his two break-point opportunities. Cerúndolo served eight aces, made no double faults and converted three of six chances to break the Russian's serve.
The Argentine will face Czech player Jakub Menšík in the third round. The Shanghai tournament is played on outdoor hard courts and has a prize fund of $9,415,725.
