Andhra Pradesh prepares for second phase of India’s 2027 census

India’s Registrar General urged officials to complete the population count without omissions or duplication; the questionnaire will contain 40 questions.
Registrar General and Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan addressed a state-level conference of census officials in Andhra Pradesh on October 9. He urged them to ensure accuracy and meet deadlines during the second phase of Census 2027.
The Population Enumeration phase will collect information about each resident using a 40-question form. The data, being gathered for the first time since 2011, will inform development planning, constituency boundaries, allocation of central funds and welfare programmes. The Indian government’s published schedule sets this phase for February 2027.
Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad called for a plan to complete enumeration within the stipulated 55 days. During the first phase, Andhra Pradesh deployed 84,115 enumerators and 13,887 supervisors across 94,983 enumeration blocks, state coordinator Shamsher Singh Rawat said.
Narayan also noted that personal data is protected under the Census Act of 1948. Mobile applications and the Census Management and Monitoring System will support data collection.
