Eleven killed in bus and truck collision in western Turkey
Eleven people died when a tourist coach collided with a truck in Akhisar, in Turkey's Manisa province, on October 11. A prosecutors' statement carried by DHA said 26 injured people were taken to hospital.
Initial reports from authorities put the injured count at 27. The later prosecutors' statement lists 26 hospital admissions. It places the collision on an access road to the Izmir–Istanbul motorway at about 11:09 a.m. local time.
The coach overturned after the impact. Emergency services attended the scene. Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said his ministry was coordinating with other institutions.
Prosecutors assigned three officials to investigate. The coach driver, the relief driver and the truck driver were detained. Detention does not establish guilt. The cause of the collision and responsibility for it remain under investigation.
