Volunteers clean road to Mangaluru Central railway station
Ramakrishna Mission volunteers cleaned the road leading to Mangaluru Central railway station on October 11, clearing a waste accumulation point near the University College Library.
The Swachh Mangaluru campaign worked with Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals and the Swachh Mangaluru Foundation. Volunteers removed rubbish, dry leaves and unwanted banners from the road used by passengers and tourists.
Students from the Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy cleaned the pedestrian pathway, removed posters and stickers from roadside walls, scrubbed adhesive marks and washed the surfaces. Canara College students also joined the effort.
The walls were painted after cleaning. The next phase is to add Warli artwork. The mission also outlined a proposal to plant greenery where waste had accumulated. Those improvements remain plans, rather than completed landscaping.
