Cyber incident disrupts work on Denmark–Germany tunnel

The contractor building the Fehmarn Belt tunnel reported a cyber incident on October 13. Danish project officials confirmed receiving the notification, while media described disruption to construction systems.
Femern Link Contractors, known as FLC, informed Sund & Bælt about the incident. Press director Jens Villemoes said the companies were discussing the situation and that the infrastructure operator had no further information to provide.
According to Bild, the contractor’s IT infrastructure was disabled on Monday. Electronic access cards stopped working, employees were told to avoid computers and Wi-Fi, and some construction vessels stopped operating. Some tasks had to be carried out manually.
The official statement did not establish the scale of the disruption or identify those responsible. The 18-kilometre tunnel will connect Rødbyhavn on Denmark’s island of Lolland with Puttgarden on Germany’s island of Fehmarn, in Schleswig-Holstein. Plans include a four-lane road and a two-track railway, with crossing times of 10 minutes by car and seven minutes by train.
